CNC Turning and Milling Processes Suited to Aerospace Work

Our fixed head Miyano mill-turn centres provide dual spindles and twin turrets for simultaneous front and back-end machining. With up to 42 cutting tools available — 24 of which can be driven — and superimposed cutting that can engage up to three tools at once, complex aerospace-related components can be produced with fewer operations and strong process control. That one-hit efficiency reduces unnecessary handling between setups while protecting dimensional consistency.

Citizen sliding head CNC turning centres, arranged in size-specific cells, support intricate geometries across batch sizes from development quantities through to higher-volume schedules. With up to 13-axis machining, C-axis control on main and sub-spindles, and high-pressure coolant systems reaching 2000 psi, these machines are engineered for efficiency, complexity and repeatability on detailed features.

Sixteen advanced Citizen sliding head centres give Unicut the flexibility to schedule aerospace-related work alongside other precision programmes without forcing every part through the same bar capacity or tooling layout. Grouping machines by size streamlines production planning and supports Just-in-Time delivery when call-offs tighten.

5-Axis Milling for Prismatic Aerospace Components

Three Mazak VARIAXIS i-600 5-axis milling machines, each with a 160-tool magazine, laser tool measurement and component probing, support first-time quality on prismatic work. The Mazak Palletech FMS accommodates 48 pallets with zero-point fixtures for efficient changeovers and unattended production where schedules require continuous output.

Probing and tool measurement are practical safeguards on aerospace prismatic parts that may combine multiple faces, pockets and datum features. Establishing confidence at first-off helps protect subsequent palletised runs when volumes increase.

Multi-Spindle Capacity Where Volume Matters

Where aerospace programmes need high-quality components at scale, the Index MS40 multi-spindle platform combines multi-spindle speed with CNC accuracy. With over 40 axes machining simultaneously, six independently programmable spindles, temperature-controlled hydrostatic slides and continuous Imeca bar loading capable of holding nearly one tonne of material, the MS40 supports repeatable production without sacrificing the control aerospace customers expect.

BSI EN 9100 and ISO 9001 underpin the inspection discipline and process control aerospace customers expect — from first-off verification through sustained production. Where assemblies form part of the deliverable, our clean room assembly department supports full or sub-assembly work alongside jigs, fixtures and testing equipment. Back pressure and leak testing is available for pneumatic and hydraulic assemblies when those checks form part of the quality plan. Packaging and dispatch complete a concept-to-component service so parts arrive ready for the next stage of your process.

Material capability includes aerospace-relevant alloys and engineering plastics from our verified machining list, including Aluminium, Titanium, Inconel, Invar, Steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steels, Peek and Acetal. Suitability is always confirmed against drawing and specification requirements — Unicut does not substitute materials without agreement.

Just-in-Time, Kanban and consignment stock options help keep production lines moving. Consignment can be held at Unicut or at the customer site, with agreed minimum and maximum levels matched to end-user schedules.
